CLIENT: Homedics (2006)

PROJECT:  Heating pads (soft goods development)

Historically, most heating pads look like blankets and are designed for the elderly who have driven sales of these products for many decades. Homedics saw an opportunity to reach a wider category: baby boomers who don’t identify themselves as “old” but may need a heating pad, and younger consumers with sports injuries. They asked us to help them create a line of heating pads aimed at these younger buyers.

To address sports-related injuries, we gave the pads straps that allow a user to wrap the pads around a leg or arm. This applies constant pressure to the injury while giving the user some mobility. So that the pads have a more youthful look, we avoided the traditional plaid cotton blanket and switched to compression-molded foam. In addition to a snug fit, the foam gives the pads a more rounded shape and fun patterns.

Our contributions to this project included concept development, 3D CAD modeling, and soft goods development.
