PROJECT: Industrial design for new office products
CLIENT: Mead
When Mead wanted to brainstorm new product innovations for office
and desk accessories, they asked us to help.
Our approach to brainstorming is to extract the maximum amount of creativity
in the minimum amount of time and we’ve developed several techniques
for doing so. For Mead we assembled a group of 20 industrial designers, engineers,
and administrative personnel for a half day, pooling their collective
wisdom. The group was divided into small teams to tackle different
problems and then quickly sketched
their ideas. These concept sketches were then passed to a different
team who quickly built upon those ideas and created new ones. This
collaberative process of building ideas upon ideas mimics the natural order of innovation
and refinement—but drastically condenses the timeframe.
The outcome
for Mead was a much larger batch of ideas created by a broader sample
of minds in a reduced amount of time.
