SERVICE: Urethane casting in RTV rubber molds

One of our specialites is creating low volume urethane cast resin prototypes in colors, tranlucents, water clear, & soft touch overmolding. Clients often need multiples of prototypes for low volume beta production and testing. In these instances we make RTV rubber molds of our master models and than cast duplicates in urethane resin. These resin castings can easily be finished and painted to resemble production parts or cast in different colors and textures.

Here's an overview of our development process;
Longaberger asked us to prototype a glass candy jar and make several copies for them. The cost of creating real cast-glass parts was prohibitive. First, our engineering department created a master model of the jar using 3D CAD . Then our prototyping department made a rapid prototype (Objet part) from the CAD data. We then made an RTV rubber mold and cast the parts in a translucent deep ruby red resin that perfectly replicated cast glass.

We were able to create realistic looking clear parts in a time frame—and cost—that Longaberger wanted.
