PROJECT: Gardening tool design and engineering

Union Tools asked us to create a tough long handled gardening shovel with improved ergonomics. The ErgoShovel features a unique gas assisted injection molded handle made from glass-filled poly-propylene. This process allowed us to create an organic shape that was 3 times as strong compared to a convention wood handle. Working with our ergonomic research partners from the Ohio State University Ergonomics Department, we also refined the handle shape for maximum comfort. In addition, we also designed the handle and label graphics.

Extremely durable, it featured styling and ergonomics that made it distinctive in the marketplace.

Our contributions to these projects included research, 2-D and 3-D concept development, 3D CAD modeling, prototyping, and engineering.
