Precision R & D Machinist

Priority Designs is a 28-year-old product development consultancy located in Columbus, Ohio. We produce award-winning designs for hundreds of clients and we’re growing. Our commitment to building prototypes continues to increase and we are looking for a precision machinist to expand our services. We respect old school skills and work approach, but we also integrate new technologies.


Ideal candidate would have:

  • A natural talent, born to work with machines and mechanisms
  • 5-10+ years precision machine experience (but we will consider related experiences)
  • An ability to understand and deliver on fit and assembly of parts/mechanisms as described by engineers (sometimes verbally, sometimes tolerance drawings)
  • Bench skills and fixture making experience
  • A problem solving nature while being self-motivated and an attitude to “get it done”
  • An aptitude to teach others
  • Flexibility in work style; some days require precision, some days require speed in a prototype/development/R&D focused environment
  • CNC machine operation (HAAS) and programming with Mastercam a plus
  • SolidWorks/ProE knowledge a plus; reading part drawings a requirement

Knit Programming Specialist

Priority Designs has a diverse and dynamic history in the product development consultancy space. We have recently invested in knitting technology to complement our in-house soft goods expertise. Due to that investment, our business has seen rapid growth in medical, industrial, and consumer wearables markets. We are looking for specialized talent to help us grow and discover new development opportunities while remaining grounded in manufacturing realities. Primary Function

To expand and grow Priority Designs’ knit capabilities by:

  • Demonstrating strong programming skills with proven industry manufacturing knowledge and experience.
  • Working closely with the soft goods design team in the design/development process, from initial conceptualization to sampling to manufacturing transition.
  • Being a subject matter expert to help our clients determine the best path for digital knit development.
  • Leveraging past industry experience to assure PD’s capabilities match industry expectations.
  • Operate STOLL (7.2 gauge) flat-bed knitting machine to produce knit panels and/or production ready samples.


Specific Job Duties/Skills:

  • Operate and expertly program STOLL (ADF 32 W Flat Bed Knitting) machine utilizing STOLL M1Plus Software.
    • Alternative machine experience a plus (Shima Seiki, Santoni, etc.)
  • Translate 2D design sketches into 3D knit samples by applying a deep knowledge of industry standard knit structures, construction, patterning, yarn specification, and vendor coordination.
  • Creatively problem solve while iterating samples with internal/external team.
  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence and sensitivity to 3D shaping.
  • Communicate with internal/external team using strong communication skills (visual and verbal).
    • Working knowledge of Adobe Suite Programs (Illustrator and InDesign) a plus.
  • Participate in and contribute to a multi-disciplinary team in a collaborative and team-oriented environment.
    • General knowledge of traditional plastic molding techniques or CAD software (SolidWorks, Creo, ProE) a plus.
  • Mentor colleagues.
  • Interface directly with clients to:
    • Represent Priority Designs’ soft goods and knitting capabilities.
    • Understand project needs.
    • Develop Statement of Work/Proposals that meet client’s product needs.
    • Manage client expectations with respect to scope/time/cost of knitting solutions.
    • Translate client’s design intent to 3D product.
  • Execute Project Management activities such as:
    • Effectively manage projects and deliver on time and within budget.


 Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Science/Design, Fashion, Textile Engineer, or closely related field (foreign equivalent accepted).
  • Experience:
    • 7+ years in related field.
    • Proven experience launching commercially available products.
    • Experience working in knitwear, apparel, footwear, soft goods, and/or related industries.
  • Strong written and verbal skills.
  • Fluent in English (English as 2nd language acceptable)

Mechanical Engineer

Priority Designs is a 28-year-old product development company with Midwest roots, global reach and a wide range of clients. We’re different; a team of 50 with a flat company structure where geeks are welcomed, titles are not, egos are discouraged, foosball skills are revered, problem solvers who are constantly thinking are a must, and the ability to have fun and collaborate (often simultaneously) is required.


We are always looking for the right fit. Although we don’t currently have a set timeline for an open position, the type of Mechanical Engineer we look for has the Dilbert “knack” (if you have it, you know it;, Dilbert: the knack). Your degree is second to your ability to think creatively and solve complex problems. Are you always curious? Do you love taking things apart, rebuilding and making them better? Do you repeat this over and over again because you thought of one more way to do it… better… for the 10th time. If so, you might be the right fit.


You would join our growing team of talented engineers and designers to cleverly solve, develop, model and prepare concepts for prototyping and production. Our projects are dynamic and ever changing. You could be the only engineer on one project while balancing, at the same time, another project involving heavy collaboration with other designers and engineers.

Product Development Electrical Engineer

We’re searching for a Product Development Electrical Engineer to join our team of designers, engineers and model makers in our dynamic and creative environment.


General Requirements

These are desired character expectations and skills that are baseline requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree required in Electrical Engineering or closely related discipline; advanced degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of recent experience engineering in a high technology environment.
  • Experience in electrical design for consumer products.
  • Comfortable working with a diverse set of stakeholders (coworkers, clients and mentors) to complete a project.
  • Capable of developing alongside industrial designers.
  • Ability to work independently, passionate and self-motivated.

Job Description

The day-to-day work will involve:

  • Creation of schematics and circuit design for a variety of applications including consumer products, medical products, and safety critical control systems.
  • Creation of PCB layouts for a variety of products, this will require close collaboration with mechanical engineering and industrial design teams.
  • Assist in rapid prototyping of solutions through informal collaboration and breadboard designs.
  • Every prototype has documented details on suppliers, costs, risks and instructions for integration.
  • Work with mechanical engineering, software engineering and qualification teams on system bring up, design validation and support teams in debug/failure analysis investigation.
  • Drive resolution of cross-functional issues including those related to architecture (performance, power consumption, thermal behavior), production (quality, failure analysis, manufacturing), and development (schematic design, PCB layout, and overall system integration).
  • Coordinate and/or design, develop, modify and evaluate electronic and/or electromechanical components assemblies/subsystems under specific time and cost constraints. While ensuring designs are cost efficient, manufacturable and are reliable.
  • Ability to carry new designs into mass production for low-high volume products with contract manufacturers.
  • Take your designs through UL, CE, and EMC immunity testing.
  • Assist in evaluating vendor capability to support development.
  • When required, lead activities in support of project assignments and goals (drawings, models, debugging, building prototypes, ability to create quick one-off circuits for testing new concepts, documentation release, etc.)
