Laser cutting is a type of CNC process that employs a CO2 laser to etch and cut profiles in a variety of materials such as plastic, fabric, and silicone.
QUICK PRECISE AND REPEATABLE
Laser cutting is ideal for quickly creating high tolerance, repeatable and easily modified parts for ideation and testing. The results are extremely precise, which also makes laser cutting a resource for creating logos, text and graphics that can be added to the prototype. The addition of these graphics to the final prototypes creates the look of a product already in production, which can be used for consumer testing, executive approval and photo shoots for promotional materials.
LASER BEAMS!
A laser beam of infra-red light is focused into the workspace onto the material at a precise point and density. The laser cutter is moved over the workspace in the shape of the part being created, cutting, melting or vaporizing the material being removed. Our laser cutter can read several file types such as Illustrator, Corel Draw and DXF files to create templates, fixtures and sample parts. For logos and graphics, we can etch anodizing and bake a ceramic finish onto most metals.
Machine specs:
- 60-watt adjustable laser
- Cutting envelope = 36″ W x 18″ L x 8″ H
- Cutting and engraving depth = up to 1″ depending on the material
- Larger parts can be built by gluing multiple sections together
- Commonly used materials–foam, wood, plastic, and fabric
